Planning Room Coordinator
William is looking forward to celebrating 20 years of sobriety in September 2022, just in time for National Recovery Month! He has worked as the Planning Room Coordinator, helping to run the operations at Healing Transitions’ men’s campus, since 2011.
He was raised by his grandparents in a small town in North Carolina; he never really knew his parents as a child. He struggled with self-esteem and started to drink to feel more comfortable in social situations. Drinking always made him feel better, but he quickly started to drink too much and became addicted to alcohol and soon, drugs.
His life began to spiral downward when he started to use cocaine, and he spent the next decade addicted to cocaine. In his 40s, he realized he needed to make a change in his life, and he began the long-term recovery program at Healing Transitions on September 15, 2002.
“My life has never been the same since that day,” he told me with a smile. Today, he is married, has a job that he loves at Healing Transitions, and has reconnected with his daughter.
“My life is amazing,” he continued. “It is just unbelievable, and I want these guys to know that it can happen for anyone.”
