Dorinda Powell is originally from Chicago, IL, relocating in her youth to Greenville, NC where she grew up. She graduated from Meredith College with a BS in accounting.  Her public accounting firm works in Boone and Raleigh, NC and includes auditing, small business consulting, and income tax. Currently she is a remote Manager for Intuit TurboTax Live.  She also has a CPA practice providing tax remediation services for select clients.

Dorinda lives at Lake Royale, NC where she enjoys kayaking on the lake and in the surrounding creeks and marshes. She founded Ladies on the Lake so local kayak enthusiasts can always find a paddling partner. The group also hosts lake clean up events and works with Sound Rivers, a nonprofit protecting the Tar-Pamlico river basins through monitoring, clean up, and advocacy.  Dorinda loves spending time on the water cleaning up the waterways or just relaxing with friends.

Dorinda is also an alumnus of Healing Transitions. Having never heard of the Healing Place, she is still amazed that she landed on the steps of the women’s center in 2008 where she began her journey into a new life, free from the bonds of alcoholism. As Silver Chipper #41 she is honored to serve on the board especially during this time of expansion and growth.
