As Shean and Tykeim shared their thoughts about the new shelter, they were also excited to talk about the spaciousness of the new classroom.
Tykeim shares that the open layout of the new classroom means that the peer mentors can see everyone more clearly when they’re teaching class and encourage the group more effectively.
“In a room like this, it’ll click one day. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but in a space this open, the mentors will have more room to see and acknowledge the people who really need help—those who need others to support them more than they’re willing to help themselves,” Tykeim shares.
Shean is also looking forward to being able to see the board more clearly in the new setup.
“It won’t be one of those situations where I’m trying to ask someone what’s on the board or just hoping I’ll catch it next time,” he explains.
He adds that the acoustics in the new room are much better, making it easier to hear.
“The lobby can get really loud, and we’re right there in the front, so it’ll be nice to have a quieter space.”
